About MVCC

Mohawk Valley Community College is a public co-educational, two-year institution. The college is a part of the 64-campus State University of New York System (SUNY). MVCC offers choice, opportunity and hope by providing accessible and affordable higher education, training, and services that emphasize academic excellence, diversity, and a global view for students. The college offers nearly 100 associate degree and certificate programs, including a comprehensive English as a Second Language Program. MVCC also offers students a wide variety of intercollegiate and intramural sports programs, student activities, organizations and clubs including an active International Club.

Location

The college is located in beautiful central New York on an 80-acre campus that includes new housing and dining facilities for those who choose to live on our safe, secure campus. Students can take advantage of the many cultural and recreational activities in the city of Utica with approximately 60,000 residents. The campus is located between the popular cities of Syracuse and Albany and is within a five hour drive of Boston, New York City, and Montreal.

Academics

  • MVCC offers accredited two-year degree programs and certificates in many popular areas of study including Business Administration and Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Design, Health Sciences, International Studies, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Psychology and much more.
  • Small class sizes and personal attention from professors help to ensure student success in the classroom.
  • Each matriculated student is assigned an academic advisor with expertise in the student's degree or certificate program. Academic advisors help students understand program requirements, select appropriate courses, prepare for careers or transfer, and gain access to any special resources needed (tutoring, counseling, etc.).
  • English as a Second Language courses are available for students at all levels of English proficiency.
  • We have a long list of transfer (two + two) agreements that allow students to transfer easily to a four-year institution in New York State or beyond.

English as a Second Language Program

Mohawk Valley Community College offers a four-level, comprehensive English as a Second Language program. Because of this, we are able to help students achieve their academic goals no matter what your initial level of English proficiency. MVCC also offers an ESL Certificate for students whose first language is not English. This is a valuable credential for students who continue in college or use English in the workplace. MVCC has no TOEFL requirement for initial attendance, however, all non-native English speaking students will be considered for ESL along with their choice of major until English proficiency can be verified.

International Student Support Services

The international student advisor assists all students in their initial adjustment to campus through an international orientation program. The advisor also provides students with information on immigration requirements, employment authorizations, and maintaining F-1 student status throughout their stay at the college. The advisor maintains open office hours for students to ask questions about the campus, the community, or just to stop in and say hello. The campus has a Student Health Center and Counseling Center that are available to all students free of charge. Additionally, academic advisors are available to answer questions and help guide students toward successful completion of their program of study.
