About Us

Hudson Valley Community College is one of the largest two-year, community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, with more than 12,000 students. Yet we're known for our small classrooms and excellent student support programs, which ensure that students receive the one-on-one attention they need.

Located in upstate New York, across the Hudson River from the state capitol of Albany, the state's capital, the area offers many recreational and cultural facilities, as well as a large mix of ethnic restaurants, places of worship, banking institutions and shopping malls. Hudson Valley is within a three hour drive of New York City and Boston.

Hudson Valley welcomes international students from dozens of countries each year. The college embraces diversity as an essential part of its mission, fostering a welcoming, inclusive learning environment for all students.

What We Offer

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education and is a member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

We offer more than 70 associate's degree and certificate programs, including: Accounting, Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Civil Engineering Technology, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood, Engineering Science, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts, Physical Education, and Respiratory Care. Visit our Web site at www.hvcc.edu for a complete list of programs.

For students interested in distance learning, Hudson Valley has 12 programs that can be completed entirely online. An additional 21 programs offer more than half of their coursework online.

Hudson Valley provides free student support services to ensure success, including one-on-one tutoring in our Learning Assistance Center and support programs like the Multicultural Orientation Program. Services are available to all students, whether you attend full- or part-time, or in the day or evening.

We believe our success as a college is reflected in the success of our students; 93 percent of our graduates find immediate employment or transfer to a four-year college to pursue a bachelor's degree.

Save Money on Your Education

Hudson Valley offers the lowest tuition of any SUNY community college.

At Hudson Valley, you can save significantly on the cost of a four-year college education by transferring after your second year. Nearly half of our students come to Hudson Valley to do just that.

Hudson Valley makes transferring easy through formal agreements with many colleges and universities so most, if not all, credits earned at Hudson Valley will be accepted at another institution. Many of our students transfer to the University at Albany and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, both located in the Albany area. Our knowledgeable counselors work closely with students to answer all their transfer questions.

Facilities

Hudson Valley's 120-acre campus features 19 buildings with more than 100 classrooms, studios and labs. Highlights include a licensed day care center with flexible rates, a 100,000+ volume library, a 126,000-square-foot sports complex and a minor league baseball stadium.

Our friendly campus offers extensive, state-of-the-art facilities to support its academic programs including the Bulmer Telecommunications Center, which encompasses the latest innovations in multi-media presentation, video teleconferencing, distance learning, and instructional technology.

In addition to wireless Internet access across campus, Hudson Valley offers more than 1,000 personal computers for student use in classrooms, open-access facilities and laboratories. We also offer computer work stations specifically designed for students with disabilities, including assistive technology equipment and computer programs.

Making International Students Feel at Home

Hudson Valley offers many opportunities for international students, all designed to make them feel at home. There are English as a Second Language courses, conversation groups for non-native speakers, the Foreign Language and Culture Club, and the International Students Club, which seeks to promote fellowship and friendship among international and American students. We also have an active cultural affairs program offering a diverse selection of music, theater and lectures.

Hudson Valley welcomes international students and makes every effort to accommodate their special needs. The college's full-time coordinator for international student services is available to provide a full range of services.
